This study examines the methods of consumption of nasvai, a smokeless tobacco product that is often mistakenly classified as chewing tobacco. The mechanism of its use is described, which involves placing nasvai under the lip or tongue, as well as the importance of avoiding contact with the lips to prevent the formation of blisters and ulcers. Side effects are discussed, including nausea and vomiting, particularly among new users, as well as the potential for the development of tolerance to the effects of nasvai over time. The study also presents results from the assessment of dental status based on clinical methods, including the examination of oral mucosa and the application of dental indices (decay, missing, filled teeth index — DMFT, periodontal index — PI, and Greene-Vermillion index). Special attention is given to the areas of the mucosa that come into contact with nasvai to identify signs of leukoplakia. Lastly, the paper analyzes regulatory documents governing the use of smokeless tobacco in various countries, which allows for an evaluation of the relevance and necessity of implementing stricter measures to control the distribution of this product.
