Abstract

Тhe essence of such a complex phenomenon as music, which, in addition, tends to change over time, can be partially explained through the various functions of music, which are also subject to change over time. The connection of musical art with the life of society is carried out in three interrelated aspects. Firstly, it reflects real reality, secondly, gives it an artistic assessment and, thirdly, performs a creative function, transforming the social life of a person. Music, like any other kind of art, inspires human life, activates the aesthetic principle in it. It not only enriches the everyday existence of a person, but raises him above everyday life, contributing to the creation of the highest layer of the spiritual life of a person and society. The decisive moment in understanding music, its essence, is the identification of its specificity, determined primarily by the functions that it performs in the life of society. The functions of music as an art form are a ramified system.
